Mask Parade

On Friday after school we went home and got our props for the mask parade. When we got to Montgomery Street we lined up in an orderly fashion. After we lined up we got given a tui each. We all waited for about half an hour till we started to walk, it was so fun walking with all of our friends. Nelson Central School was so awesome the singing was the best. At the prize giving was cool because Nelson Central School won two prizes and we won 1000 dollars. The mask parade was so wicked we reckon that the people got the message - THE FUTRE STARTS NOW!

The mask parade

At 5.30pm we were all lined up and ready to go. First we started to march while we were singing Reduce , Reuse, Recycle around the city. It was really fun. I can’t wait to go again.

NCS mask parade.

In the mask parade we wore leaf mask and wigs. We had to hold a tree on a stick and we had to hold a Tuis hand. The 5 year olds were the Tuis. At 5 o’clock it was judging time. Our theme was The Future Starts Now and we waited for ages before it started. Our legs were sore and I think it was 2 hours till the Mask Parade finished.
After the Mask Parade there was a carnival. Then we finally found out that we had won! YEAH!

Mask Parade

We practised for the mask parade and sometimes we went around our front field one or two times. On Friday we walked halfway round town. We wore gold wigs, masks and black clothes and held trees. We walked for 45 minutes and we won first prize.

BeDazzled at the Museum!

On Tuesday we went to Bedazzled. The exhibition was about reflection and mirrors. Keegan liked the midget mirror. Sebbie liked the kaleidoscope. William liked the tall mirror. We learned about concave & convex. We also learned about real and virtual images.

Mask Parade

On Friday our class went to the mask parade. Our class had to wear golden wigs and be Kowhai trees. We had to stand there for half an hour and then we were starting to walk and sing. Every one was cheering and it was fun and we won the mask parade. Lucy’s tree broke.

BeDazzled

On Tuesday Room 3 went to the museum to the Bedazzled exhibition. There were screeds of mirrors. There were different types of mirrors like concave and convex. When you look into a convex mirror you look the right way round. When you look in to a concave mirror you look upside down.

When we got to school we went to the Bedazzled exhibition at the Museum. At the Museum we got told what to do and we went a round to have look at the exhibits. There were convex mirrors and concave mirrors and when you looked in the concave mirror you appeared upside down.

Mask Parade

On Friday after school it was the mask parade. Our school took part in it. Our theme was The future starts now. There were birds, Fish, ducks etc in a “river” and trees beside the river. We sang the 3 R’s. It took part around town. Kahikatea syndicate had to wear dark clothing, leaf masks, and wigs and hold trees. At the end some people stayed for a bit and heard that we won the schools section and the overall section!

Storm water

It is important that only water goes down the gutter and storm water drains. If litter goes down the gutter and storm water drains it all ends up in the sea and the fish will eat it.

Water quality

If we put things in our gutters it will either end up in the ocean or in the gutters or clog them up. If the rubbish end up in the ocean it will hurt animals or make them die, and after awhile the water will get really dirty and we will get sick and die.

Water Quality

We should be careful about our water because we could get sick! We need clean water to: wash in, play in or drink from.

Storm water

We should be careful about what ends up in the gutters, because the drain leads to the sea, lakes and rivers. So if you wash your car on the road it will go into the sea and contaminate the water. So you should wash on gravel or grass so it will go into it.

Storm water

We should be careful because heavy rain will break drains and they will get blocked and get flood.

Storm water

We should be careful about what gets in our gutters because.
If the branches of leaves get into the gutters the water will make a flood and wash away the road.
If a house gutter becomes blocked water may leak into the house.
What ends up in the rivers and could kill our fish and pollute the ocean.

Storm water

We should be careful of what we put down the drain
because it may pollute the water and
make things sick.

Storm water

If you put poison in a storm water drain, it will end up in the sea and may kill fish.

Storm water

The reason we should make sure what ends up in our storm water-drains and gutters is because if the water has any bad stuff in it animals might drink it. Then they could get sick or die.

Storm water

Oils from cars can go down the drains and get washed out to sea and kill all the creatures in the sea.

Storm water

If we drop rubbish in our city’s drains it then ends up in the sea which is a big threat to the animals.

Storm water

We should be careful of what ends up in gutters and storm water drains because they lead into rivers or the sea. If we put poisons like weed killers down the drain it would kill things that live in the rivers and the sea. Then there would be no more edible fish for us to eat.

Storm water

We should be careful what ends up in our gutters because the gutter pipes leads to the sea. If we leave rubbish around it might blow or roll in to the gutter and when it gets out into the sea it will leave the beach looking disgusting. The rubbish might go into the sea and strangle sea creatures and other stuff like that. If too many animals die most sea creatures will be dead and that would be sad. That is why I think we should keep rubbish out of gutters.

Storm water

1. It can block the gutters and over flow the drains and floods the streets.
2. Incase it ends up in the sea and harms the fish.

Storm water

We should be careful of what ends up in the gutters and storm water because toxic waste in drains/storm waters goes into the sea and kills fish and sea plants that decreases oxygen production for the world.

Rubbish

Fish are been affected by people that drop rubbish into drain, which leads down the drain and into the sea, which kills the fish in the sea, which is no good to the fish in the sea.

Rubbish

People throw rubbish, out which goes into the gutter, then into a pipe, which goes into the sea. This can kill sea creatures.

Water Pollution

Faecal bacteria have been found in Tasman’s drinking water. 46 out 68 houses. Had undrinkable water. The council doesn’t know whether it is animal or human faeces. It has possibly come from septic tanks. Houses are starting to install water filtration systems.

Radioactive waste

Radioactive waste created by nuclear power stations remains dangerous for thousands of years.

Rubbish

Rubbish is a worldwide problem.
1. Rubbish can get stuck in animals’ throats.
2. Rubbish pollutes the environment.
3. We are running out of space to put our rubbish.
Do you now how long it takes for a plastic bag to disintegrate in the sea?
It takes 10-20 years before it breaks into smaller pieces and a lot longer before it completely disintegrates.

Climate Change

Did you know, I have been to Franz and Fox Glacier and I found out that since 1937 Fox Glacier has moved back 1 kilometre. If Global Warming continues the Glacier might move back in even less time and will cause the water level to rise and if that happens that would cause floods.

Room 3 as detectives!

One Wednesday Rm3 had a reliever. After lunch we had to pretend to be detectives and solve a crime about a stolen wallet. We got an Identikit (on a piece of paper) and had to draw what the witnesses thought they had seen. Then we got to be a witness ourselves and draw, then describe what we saw. Finally, we made our own Identikit and a suspect. It was really cool!

Solar power

People in New Zealand should use more solar energy instead of wasting power. Solar power uses the heat from the sun. Some people have water tanks on their roofs for the sun to heat their water.

Rubbish

New Zealanders throw 3.6 million tones of rubbish in a year. Which pollutes our land. It is a lot of rubbish that is able to be recycled instead of being thrown out.

Climate Change

The Climate of a region its weather pattern over a long period of time. The weather may change from day to day, but the Climate stays the same. Climate can change over time .Volcanic eruptions may have a sudden, local effect, but deforestation and destruction, of the ozone layer by pollutant gases may have long term effects allover the world.

Endangered animals

Some animals are becoming extinct. They are getting extinct because their homes are getting cut down. When trees are cut down they no longer have a place to live. People have also hunted these animals. We saw panda bears in china they were getting extinct but people put them in pastures and we saw baby pandas and now they may be coming back.

Global Warming

Global warming has a big impact on the world because us humans put chemicals that weaken the Earth’s outer layer so it causes the icebergs to melt which will cause the sea level to rise which will flood the Pacific islands, which will cause people to be homeless.

Global warming

One environmental issue about Global warming is that the world is getting warmer and the icebergs are melting our water levers are getting higher and we and we of land flooding.

Global warming

Global warming is going to be a big problem for as because the sun will melt the ice caps and flood the world, creating hundreds and millions of climate refugees. If action is not taken the world will be worst then both world war 1 and 2. green house gases need to be reduced to about 40% of what they had in 1990.

Global warming

One environmental issue about Global warming is that the world is getting warmer and the icebergs are melting our water levers are getting higher and we and we of land flooding.

FUNDING NEEDED FOR GLOBAL WARMING

Local government needs more funding for lowland water way areas. Due to climate change water levels are raising and the cost is also rising for public safety eg building sites existing buildings playgrounds and parks.

Nonrenewable Resources

Nonrenewable resources are natural resources that can’t be replaced once they are used up. They include natural gas, oil and coal. The issue is that on all of them for a daily living. Our planet is running out of nonrenewable resources because we use a lot of electricity. We also rely on transport that uses large amounts of fuel.

Air Pollution

What understand about air pollution? In winter There has been a lot of fires that Creates smoke which produces air pollution in Nelson. Cars and trucks burning petrol makes smoke that increases the air pollution. Air pollution can kill people. A match can make fire but fire makes air pollution.
